AIADMK-BJP Alliance on Hold After Dispute Over Late CN Annadurai's Comments
Strains between the AIADMK and BJP seemed to have reached a flashpoint on Tuesday when a senior leader of the Dravidian party said there was no alliance with the saffron organisation.

In a recent development, the AIADMK-BJP alliance has been put on hold, as announced by the Tamil Nadu party. This decision comes in the wake of their strong disapproval of the comments made by state BJP chief K Annamalai regarding the late CN Annadurai, who was the mentor of AIADMK founder MGR.
"We will make a decision regarding the alliance closer to the election," stated senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar. He further criticized Annamalai, stating, "Annamalai is not suitable to hold the position of the BJP's state president. He consistently speaks disparagingly about respected late leaders, seemingly for self-promotion."
Jayakumar pointed out that when Annamalai had previously made derogatory remarks about AIADMK leaders, including the late J Jayalalithaa, the party had requested restraint from the BJP leader. He emphasized that AIADMK party workers would not tolerate any disrespect towards the late chief minister.
"Annamalai does not appear to desire an alliance with AIADMK, despite the desire of BJP workers for such a partnership. Should we endure continuous criticism of our leaders? Why should we carry the burden of such comments? The BJP should reconsider its stance here. Their electoral base is well-known. They are recognized because of their association with us," the former minister expressed during a press conference. "We can no longer tolerate these disparaging remarks about our leaders," he asserted.
When asked if these statements represented his personal opinion, Jayakumar responded, "Have I ever spoken to you in an individual capacity? I only convey the party's decisions."
