ISRO Releases 3D Image of Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander

**ISRO Releases 3D Image of Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander from Moon's South Pole**

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) unveiled a captivating 3-dimensional 'anaglyph' image of the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander situated on the moon's south pole. This visually-striking image comprises the left picture within the red channel and the right image in the blue and green channels, creating an intriguing cyan shade.

The space agency communicated on X (previously known as Twitter), "The image has been crafted using NavCam Stereo Images. It amalgamates both the left and right pictures taken by the onboard Pragyan Rover."

To clarify the concept, anaglyph allows a 3D visualization of objects or terrains derived from stereo or multi-view snapshots. ISRO explained, "The stereo effect stemming from the differential perspectives of the two images offers a three-dimensional visual experience. For an immersive 3D viewing, we recommend using red and cyan glasses."

The development of the NavCam was credited to LEOS/ISRO, while the data processing was the handiwork of SAC/ISRO.

Interestingly, the revelation of these images came on the heels of ISRO's announcement that the 'Vikram Lander' transitioned into a dormant state around 8 am IST on the preceding Monday. The organization mentioned that all the accumulated data has been transmitted to Earth and the onboard instruments have been deactivated. However, the Vikram Lander and Pragyaan are projected to be reactivated around September 22.

It's worth reminiscing that on August 23, India etched its name in space history. The Chandrayaan-3 lander module achieved a landmark landing on the moon's South Pole, erasing past memories of the Chandrayaan-2's unfortunate crash-landing four years ago. This monumental achievement positioned India as the fourth nation, succeeding the US, China, and Russia, to secure a successful landing on the lunar surface.
