BJP in Delhi Appoints In-Charges for Parliamentary Constituencies Ahead of General Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi has taken proactive steps by designating in-charges for each of the seven parliamentary constituencies, ensuring effective oversight of organizational activities and political operations.

These "Lok Sabha Prabharis," who have been assigned this role exclusively for the upcoming general elections, have been given an early start to preempt any potential last-minute obstacles. According to one of the seven appointed in-charges, this strategic move is aimed at forestalling challenges that may arise closer to the elections.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the head of the BJP's media department in Delhi, emphasized that the Lok Sabha in-charges will be responsible for implementing the party's organizational framework and political agendas at both macro and micro levels, aiming to have them in place at least six months before the scheduled polls.

Kapoor clarified that, as per the directives of the Delhi BJP, the Lok Sabha in-charges will oversee critical tasks such as door-to-door voter outreach and organizational assignments such as the selection of booth-level functionaries, including 'panna pramukhs.' The goal is to ensure that these activities are completed well in advance, minimizing the risk of any last-minute complications.

According to one of the in-charges, their responsibilities encompass comprehensive supervision of all aspects related to the party's political and organizational activities within their respective Lok Sabha constituencies.

The distribution of in-charge roles for specific constituencies includes:

- Harsh Malhotra, Delhi unit general secretary, overseeing the East Delhi seat.
- Dinesh Pratap Singh, state unit vice president, responsible for New Delhi.
- Former Mayor Jai Prakash in charge of West Delhi.
- Kamaljeet Sehrawat handling North East Delhi.
- Yogendra Chandaulia, Delhi general secretary, appointed for North West Delhi.
- Rajiv Babbar designated as the in-charge for South Delhi.
- Rajesh Bhatia taking on the responsibilities for Chandni Chowk.

The BJP clinched all seven seats in both the 2014 and 2019 elections. A senior BJP member in Delhi revealed that these in-charges are considered the party's official representatives for their respective constituencies and are expected to prepare for the polls with the same dedication as if they were candidates themselves.

The Lok Sabha in-charges actively participate in crucial organizational meetings, collaborating with district unit leaders and in-charge officials to oversee political and organizational activities within their assigned constituencies. Furthermore, they serve as a formal and informal conduit for feedback to the party leadership on a diverse range of matters, including the performance and popularity of current MPs and potential candidates from their designated areas.

In the forthcoming elections, the BJP will face competition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress in Delhi. Despite forming the INDIA bloc for the 2024 polls, the AAP and Congress are currently pursuing individual campaigns, diverging from their combined effort ahead of the 2019 elections, when they attempted to negotiate seat-sharing arrangements. The BJP, however, garnered more votes across all seven constituencies than the combined total of the AAP and Congress candidates.
