In a somber announcement, WWE's Head of Creative, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, revealed the tragic passing of former WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt, known in real life as Windham Rotunda, on Thursday. The heartbreaking news was conveyed to Levesque by WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, who is also the father of the late wrestler.

The cause of Windham Rotunda's untimely death has not yet been officially confirmed. Rotunda, a former WWE Universal Champion and WWE Champion, had an illustrious career in WWE that spanned over a decade. Throughout his tenure, he adopted various personas, including Husky Harris, Bray Wyatt, and the eerie alter-ego, The Fiend.

His final appearance on WWE television took place at the Royal Rumble in 2023, where Bray Wyatt triumphed over LA Knight in a pitch-black match, securing victory with a pinfall. Prior to this, Rotunda had been absent from WWE programming since WrestleMania 37 in April 2021, a departure that had shocked fans when the company unexpectedly released him in July of that same year.

Before making his triumphant return to the ring at the Royal Rumble in January 2023, Rotunda sat down for a poignant interview with FOX Sports' Ryan Satin. In one of his last interviews, he candidly discussed his time away from wrestling and the personal challenges he faced before returning to the squared circle.

Reflecting on his absence, Rotunda remarked, "There's a certain reluctance to me, where there hasn't been in the past. It's part of any athlete; when you're away from something so long, there's something in the back of your head that's like, ‘Am I still 'it'? Am I still what I should be?' … As the weeks have progressed, I've really started to kind of come into my own again and start to remember why I do this and how much it means to me to be out there and perform."

He went on to share his struggles during his time away from wrestling, acknowledging, "During my time away, I had opportunities to do really cool things, and I just wouldn't because I felt broken. There was something that was just shut off, and I didn't understand why. It was literally people telling me, and just keeping me alive and dragging me back, telling me, ‘You should still do this. We miss you.’ I didn't feel that way at first. I felt damaged, and it was that that kinda gave me the strength to build back out and explode."

The wrestling world, fans, and colleagues are left in mourning by the loss of Windham Rotunda, remembering him not only for his captivating in-ring performances but also for his resilience in the face of personal challenges.
